Baseball Recap: Cattaraugus-Little Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Randolph

Cattaraugus-Little Valley extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They came up short against the Randolph Cardinals, falling 21-5. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Timberwolves' highest-scoring contest to date.

Caleb Aguiar made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That hit marked the first that he has got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Wulf, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

As for Randolph, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-7. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Randolph's side, Allen Root made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Root a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Connor Braley was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Randolph's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Kevin McElwain was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.

While Cattaraugus-Little Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
