Baseball Game Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Helix Scotties

El Capitan is 1-9 against Helix since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vaqueros are taking a road trip to face off against the Scotties at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

El Capitan made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Granite Hills, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Vaqueros fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vaqueros have suffered against the Eagles since April 27, 2018.

Nathan McLean was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, El Capitan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Branden Hawkins, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Helix didn't have quite enough to beat Eastlake on Wednesday and fell 5-3. The Scotties have struggled against the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 7-11-1. As for Helix, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

El Capitan came up short against Helix in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Vaqueros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
