Baseball Recap: Zeeland West Takes a Loss

Zeeland West had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Zeeland East Chix, falling 9-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dux of the 7-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Zeeland East, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-3 record. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Zeeland East's part, Max Mulder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Mulder has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Davis, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Jaworowski, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Zeeland East beat Zeeland West by a score of 6-3 later that day.
