Softball Recap: Kearsley Comes Up Short

Kearsley extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Fenton Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-0 loss on Thursday.

As for Fenton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by six runs or more this season.

For Fenton's part, Abby Golen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Golen has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Fenton got a massive performance out of Marlee Topij, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Topij a new career-high. Lillian Tillier was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Kearsley will host Flushing at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Fenton, they will head out on the road to take on Swartz Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
