The Eagle Mustangs will square off against the Timberline Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eagle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Eagle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Rocky Mountain, who was ranked 11th at the time (Eagle was ranked 14th). The Mustangs fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.
Caleb Zawadzki spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eagle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dallin Snooks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Snooks launched this season.
Meanwhile, Timberline was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 11-7 to Centennial. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly four runs.
Vinny Peters was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Isaac Mills and Aidan Messerschmitt stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mills went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Messerschmitt went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Diego Baker, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Eagle's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Timberline, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Eagle beat Timberline 6-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
