Basketball Recap: Colonial Finds Playoff Glory Versus Winter Park

With a playoff win on the line, Colonial rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with a 45-36 victory over the Winter Park Wildcats. This was a revenge game for the Grenadiers: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in December of 2024, they had to take a 2-0 defeat.

Erialys Lopez was nothing short of spectacular: she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Colonial is 2-1 when Lopez posts eight or more boards, but 9-13 otherwise. Yaneyla Pedraza was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Colonial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maliyah Lockhart, who posted seven points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Riley, who had six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.

Colonial's record is now 11-14. As for Winter Park, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.

Colonial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-41 defeat against Timber Creek on the 8th. Winter Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
