Basketball Game Preview: Westlake Thunder vs. Lehi Pioneers

The Westlake Thunder will head out on the road to challenge the Lehi Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Westlake is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Skyridge, who was ranked 20th at the time (Westlake was ranked 11th). Westlake sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 win over Skyridge on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunder have posted against the Falcons since January 19, 2021.

Meanwhile, Lehi earned a 62-52 win over American Fork on Friday.

Westlake better keep an eye on Ellie Hill. She was instrumental in Lehi's win, putting up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Jepson, who posted 12 points.

Lehi has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points per game. As for Westlake, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Westlake came up short against Lehi in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 48-37. Can Westlake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
