Baseball Recap: Upper Lake Cougars vs. Lower Lake Trojans

Upper Lake extended their losing streak to 13 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-15 in the process. They came up short against the Lower Lake Trojans, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 back in April.

As for Lower Lake, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

For Lower Lake's part, Brody Shields made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Shields a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Shields wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Hartman, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Hartman has posted since back in March of 2024. Zach Jones was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Upper Lake is set to challenge their familiar foe Middletown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lower Lake will square off against rival Clear Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
