Basketball Recap: Buckeye Falls Despite Big Games from Amayah Leyva and Jaelah Brown

After a string of four wins, Buckeye's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 42-35 to the Estrella Foothills Wolves. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 76-44 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Buckeye had strong showings from Jaelah Brown, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points, and Amayah Leyva, who posted eight points and three steals. Leyva is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played.

Estrella Foothills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eva Amenhauser, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chanel Yellowman, who scored eight points along with eight steals and seven boards.

Buckeye's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Estrella Foothills, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-3.

Buckeye didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-30 win against Youngker on the 4th. As for Estrella Foothills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 84-17 victory against Westview on the 4th.
