Softball Game Preview: Washington Hatchets vs. Heritage Hills Patriots

Washington hasn't had much luck against Heritage Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hatchets will head out to challenge the Patriots at 5:00 p.m.

Washington is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Forest Park.

Ellycia Shartzer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Addy Williams was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Heritage Hills sidestepped Jasper for a 4-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Mia Kiegel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Haley Fisher was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Washington's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Heritage Hills, their record is now 2-0.

Washington suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Heritage Hills when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Hatchets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
