Volleyball Recap: Wapsie Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Kiley Schmitz and Espyn Decker

Wapsie Valley suffered their biggest defeat since October 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost seven in a row.

While Wapsie Valley ultimately came up short, they really made Sumner-Fredericksburg work, particularly in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-19, 28-26.

Despite the defeat, Wapsie Valley had strong showings from Espyn Decker, who had ten digs, and Kiley Schmitz, who had nine digs. Taylor Schneider also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Wapsie Valley's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Sumner-Fredericksburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.

Coincidentally, Wapsie Valley and Sumner-Fredericksburg will both be playing Jesup the next time they take the court. The Warriors will head out to face the J-Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Cougars will host them at 5:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
