Softball Recap: Astoria Snaps 15-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Astoria dropped their record down to 10-3-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Scappoose Indians by a score of 3-2. The Fishermen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Astoria saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Svensen, who went 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Scappoose, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 24, 2024.

On Scappoose's side, Saige Casey spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. Casey has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ashlynn Komp was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. Ava Freeman also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Looking ahead, Astoria will venture away from home to take on St. Helens at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Fishermen surely won't give up without a fight. As for Scappoose, they will be playing at home against Pendleton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
