Recap: Grant Park Dragons vs. Momence Momence Athletics
The Grant Park Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 37-28 to Momence. Grant Park found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 14 to 3 on offense.
Grant Park's loss came despite strong showings from Alejandra Maldonado and Claire Sluis. Maldonado scored 17 points along with six steals, while Sluis scored seven points along with two steals. Maldonado has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played.
Momence got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sydnee Vanswol out in front who scored 14 points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Vanswol posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was A'Miracle Johnson, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Grant Park's defeat dropped their record down to 5-20. As for Momence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grant Park will challenge Clifton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Grant Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Momence, they will head out on the road to take on Beecher at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
