Basketball Recap: Westlake Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Westlake, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-47 victory over the Lehi Pioneers on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Thunder: when they faced off against the Pioneers back in January, they had to take a 48-43 defeat.

Westlake found their leader in sophomore Avery Thompson, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. CJ Cox also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mckenzie Jepson, who put up eight points along with six boards and six steals. The dominant performance gave Jepson a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Cali Ashton, who earned 11 points and three steals.

Westlake pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 34.6% in those games and 26.4% outside of them. As for Lehi, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Westlake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-37 victory against Pleasant Grove on the 7th. As for Lehi, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-54 win against Skyridge on the 7th.
