Soccer Game Preview: Pickens vs. Dawson County

The Pickens Dragons will head out on the road to take on the Dawson County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pickens made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gilmer, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Pickens put the hurt on Gilmer with a sharp 5-1 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.

Meanwhile, Dawson County came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the War Eagles a 7-0 shutout. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the War Eagles are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dawson County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 26 goals over those four contests. As for Pickens, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Pickens might still be hurting after the 6-1 loss they got from Dawson County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pickens was down 4-1.
