Basketball Recap: Northfield Comes Up Short

Northfield and Daleville squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Northfield had to settle for second. They fell to the Daleville Broncos 64-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Norsemen still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Northfield lost, don't look at Jake Perney. Despite the final result, he shot 60% from the field on his way to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Perney a new career-high in points. Jaden Baer was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Noah Colvin was his usual excellent self, going 6-for-7 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists for Daleville. Colvin has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Sexton, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 13 points and seven boards.

Northfield's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Daleville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-15.

Northfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Daleville, they will challenge Monroe Central at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monroe Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Daleville likes a good challenge.
