Baseball Recap: Westchester Takes a Loss

Westchester extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the University Wildcats. Comets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Wildcats since on Friday.

As for University, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-13. The game was the first time they have beaten Westchester on their field since May 2, 2023.

For University's part, Jacob Santos made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Santos has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Anthony Moller and Angel Huerta did most of the damage at the plate: Moller went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Huerta went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Moller has become a key player for University: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Han, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Westchester will welcome Palisades at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets will need to watch out since the Dolphins have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for University, they have already played their next game, a 6-5 defeat against Rolling Hills Prep on the 3rd.
