Softball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Our Lady of Mercy Academy

Our Lady of Mercy Academy's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buena Chiefs a 6-0 shutout. The win was some much needed relief for the Villagers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Teegan Sofran made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabel Quinlan, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Riley Welker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Buena, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy and Buena could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Villagers (ranked 257th) will meet Absegami (ranked 52nd) at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Buena will face off against Hammonton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (294 vs. 65).
