Basketball Recap: Burroughs Takes a Loss

Burroughs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 63-34 loss at the hands of the Bishop Miege Stags.

Burroughs' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Moriyah Douglass, who posted 15 points and five rebounds, and Breaunna Ward, who had 15 points. That was a full 44.1% of Burroughs' points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Bishop Miege to victory were Mary Grant and Kirston Verhulst. Grant went 8 of 19 en route to 21 points and seven boards, while Verhulst went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Grant a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Finley LeMay, who scored five points along with five boards and three steals.

Burroughs' loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Bishop Miege, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Burroughs will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pattonville at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st. Bishop Miege will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Lawrence at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st.
