Basketball Recap: King Takes a Loss

King lost against Corpus Christi Moody back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The King Mustangs had to suffer through a 52-13 loss at the hands of the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans. The match marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

King lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gianna Blanco, who posted nine points. Janiya Heard was another key player, putting up two points and eight blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corpus Christi Moody to victory, but perhaps none more so than Raelene Avalos, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 16 points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most points Avalos has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shantaye Hazel, who earned eight points in addition to ten rebounds and eight steals.

King dropped their record down to 9-21 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Corpus Christi Moody, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King has already played their next game (against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Corpus Christi Moody will venture away from home to challenge Carroll at 6:15 p.m. on January 21st. Corpus Christi Moody is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
