Softball Recap: Portland Comes Up Short

Portland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Westbrook Knights. If the Highlanders were looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to the Knights when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kaelin Mullin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Portland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Royea, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Portland's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Westbrook, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Portland has already played their next contest, a 12-8 win against University/Classical Magnet on the 18th. As for Westbrook, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-2 defeat against Cromwell on the 16th.
