Baseball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Fountain Valley Barons

The Great Oak Wolfpack will head out on the road to take on the Fountain Valley Barons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Great Oak is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Great Oak is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Los Osos on Monday, falling 12-5.

Gavin Fien made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Even though they lost, Great Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Fountain Valley was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Huntington Beach. The defeat continues a trend for the Barons in their meetings with the Oilers: they've now lost three in a row.

Fountain Valley also got a good showing from D'Angelo Diaz, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Diaz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Isaac Grimaldo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Great Oak's record is now 1-5. As for Fountain Valley, their record is now 5-5.
