Basketball Recap: Legend Beats Cherry Creek for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Legend came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 68-55 win over the Cherry Creek Bruins. This was payback for the Titans, who suffered a 69-52 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Legend to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maley Wilhelm, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 boards. The dominant performance gave Wilhelm a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Ava Gavi, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on her way to 18 points.

Legend smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Legend's record is now 5-1. As for Cherry Creek, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Legend will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Riverdale Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Legend knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Riverdale Ridge likes a good challenge. As for Cherry Creek, they will be taking part in a tournament against La Jolla Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
