Baseball Recap: Eastlake Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Eastlake ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Brawley Wildcats 3-2. The Titans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Eastlake got a great performance from Lucas Yriqui as he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Yriqui a new career-high.

At the plate, Tyler Maula and Joel Vargas did most of the damage at the plate: Maula went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Vargas went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Eastlake and bumps their season record up to 12-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Brawley, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-7 record.

Eastlake and Brawley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Titans will challenge Otay Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (64 vs. 277). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eastlake 3.6, the Mustangs 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Brawley (ranked 265th) will meet Holtville (ranked 566th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
