Baseball Game Preview: A+ Charter School Maricopa vs. Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion

The A+ Charter School Maricopa are taking a road trip to face off against the Wickenburg Christian Academy Lion at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While A+ Charter School didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Tri-City Christian Academy with a sharp 14-7 win on Thursday. 14 seems to be a good number for the Maricopa as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Vash Livingston made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Livingston was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Martin Coronado, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Zackery Wheeler also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Wickenburg Christian Academy took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Flagstaff Christian.

Evan Gustin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Matt Sheehan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for A+ Charter School and bumps their season record up to 5-0-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Wickenburg Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

A+ Charter School suffered a grim 21-2 defeat to Wickenburg Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can A+ Charter School avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
