Baseball Recap: South Fork Cubs vs. St. Bernard's Crusaders
South Fork had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it seven. They came up short against the St. Bernard's Crusaders, falling 19-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-0 loss on April 10th.
As for St. Bernard's, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.
For St. Bernard's part, Tyler Hinrichs and Michael Manzi made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hinrichs struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Manzi pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hinrichs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hinrichs went 1-for-2 with two runs, while Manzi went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Manzi has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Garrett Shanahan was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Trenten Hagler also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
While South Fork had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
