The St. Rita Mustangs will challenge the Lane Tech Champions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Rita took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Homewood-Flossmoor. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Peyton Panozzo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. St. Rita is 4-2 when Panozzo allows two or fewer hits, but 1-8 otherwise. Panozzo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, St. Rita got a big performance out of Colin Quinn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Quinn has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joe Camer, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Lane Tech waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 8-3.
Dodger Friedrich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Jacob DeVinney was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Jeremiah Aguiniga was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.
Lane Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Lane Tech's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for St. Rita, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
