Basketball Recap: United Longhorns vs. Vela Sabercats
United couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took an 85-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vela Sabercats on Friday. The Longhorns just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row dating back to last season.
Jordan Bustamante was a one-man wrecking crew for Vela as he went 15 for 21 en route to 43 points plus eight rebounds and two steals. What's more, Bustamante also racked up four threes, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. Jp Olivarez was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten assists.
United wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-63 loss against East Central on the 9th. Vela has also already played their next matchup, an 86-42 victory against La Joya on the 12th.
