Volleyball Recap: Markesan Hornets vs. Laconia Spartans
Markesan unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Laconia Spartans on Tuesday. The Hornets were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.
The final score came out to 25-8, 25-16, 25-14.
Markesan's offense was headlined by Rylee Hoffmann and Mia Vande Berg, who picked up four kills apiece. They got some help from Brynn Jackowski and her seven assists. Lettie Heiling controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Laconia was led to victory by Gabby Pinno and Josie Basler. Pinno had 19 assists and five digs, while Basler had 12 digs. Those 12 digs gave Basler a new career-high.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Markesan and Green Lake/Princeton will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on September 4. The game will give the Hornets their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Laconia, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Waupun at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
