Softball Recap: Fleming County Panthers vs. Russell Red Devils
Fleming County lost against Russell back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Panthers took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Devils. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.
Abby Ross was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Abree Argo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run and one double. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ariana Adams, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Fleming County's record now sits at 6-15. As for Russell, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fleming County will venture away from home to challenge Rowan County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Russell, they will head out on the road to face off against Blazer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
