Baseball Recap: Hobart Takes a Loss

Hobart extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 7-15. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cordell Blue Devils. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Cordell, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-13. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

For Cordell's part, Jaxon Davis made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

Davis wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michael Hileman, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Hileman has posted since back in March. Another was Carter Owens, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Hobart and Cordell will both be playing Frederick the next time they take the field. The Bearcats will host the Bombers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Blue Devils will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
