Soccer Game Preview: Brandon vs. Oak Grove

The Brandon Bulldogs and the Oak Grove Warriors will compete for holiday cheer at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Brandon's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so Oak Grove's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Oak Grove better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Brandon really get things going. Everything went Brandon's way against Pearl on Friday as Brandon made off with a 6-1 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by five goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Pearl from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal.

Meanwhile, Oak Grove fell victim to Petal and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi soccer rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Panthers are ranked fifth).

The victory made it two in a row for Brandon and bumps their season record up to 8-3-2. As for Oak Grove, they dropped their record down to 4-6-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Brandon skirted past Oak Grove 1-0 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brandon since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
