Baseball Recap: Stratton Takes a Loss

McClave hit Stratton with a five-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The Eagles have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Ricky Schillig was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Von Isenbart and Grady Steerman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Isenbart went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Steerman got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Keegan Isenbart also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Stratton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for McClave, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-1.

Coming up, Stratton will square off against Otis at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for McClave, they will take on Granada at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.08 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
