Baseball Game Preview: Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix vs. Williamson Warriors

The Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix will take on the Williamson Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Sugar Valley Rural will be strutting in after a win while Williamson will be coming in after a defeat.

Sugar Valley Rural is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Layden Bryan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Swanger, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Dakota Jodun, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Williamson fell victim to Athens and their airtight pitching crew last Wednesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 12-0. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Williamson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kohen Flynn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases. Flynn is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

Williamson's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Sugar Valley Rural, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5-1.
