Softball Game Preview: Saugus Centurions vs. San Marcos Royals

The Saugus Centurions will take on the San Marcos Royals at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Saugus has five straight wins, San Marcos has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Saugus' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Castaic by a score of 4-0.

The result came thanks to Taliya Mata's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nicole Specht, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, San Marcos came up short against Oxnard on Friday and fell 5-2.

San Marcos saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Solana Sandoval, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Saugus' victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for San Marcos, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Saugus was able to grind out a solid win over San Marcos in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 9-4. Will the Centurions repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
