Softball Recap: Washington Union's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

Washington Union lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Sunnyside, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's contest. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Wildcats on Saturday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Callie Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Flores was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Riley Cunha was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Elizabeth Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Washington Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Washington Union's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9. As for Sunnyside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

Washington Union and Sunnyside will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Panthers see the field they'll take on Exeter at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Sunnyside, their break will end when they face Fowler at 4:45 p.m. on the 23rd.
