Baseball Recap: Point Arena Takes Down St. Vincent De Paul in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Point Arena had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Mustangs last Wednesday, they had to take a 6-5 defeat.

Not much got past Aidan O'Neil, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep St. Vincent de Paul off the board. O'Neil has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jimmy Owens, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Point Arena: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Mateo VanCleave also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Point Arena's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for St. Vincent de Paul, their loss dropped their record down to 5-20.

Looking ahead, Point Arena will take on Swett on Saturday. St. Vincent de Paul does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
