Basketball Recap: Granada Falls Despite Big Games from Kinsley Williams and Dayzriana Quintana

After a string of four wins, Granada's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Springfield Longhorns. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-35 back in December of 2024.

Granada's loss came despite strong showings from Dayzriana Quintana and Kinsley Williams. Quintana posted six points along with 17 boards and five steals, while Williams had seven points and five rebounds. Quintana has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last seven times she's played.

Even though they lost, Granada smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. This was only their third loss (out of 14 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Springfield found their leader in freshman Jersey Speck, who put up 17 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Cobi Mackey, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Granada's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Springfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Granada will venture away from home to take on Stratton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Stratton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Springfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Kim/Branson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
