Baseball Recap: Twentynine Palms Falls Short of Academy for Academic Excellence in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Twentynine Palms can now relate to. They fell just short of the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Salvador Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Twentynine Palms is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Twentynine Palms saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Gabriel, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Twentynine Palms' defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
