Volleyball Game Preview: Newport Harbor Sailors vs. Torrey Pines Falcons

The Newport Harbor Sailors will head out to face off against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Torrey Pines took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Newport Harbor, who comes in off a win.

Newport Harbor is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Saturday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over Redondo Union. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Sea Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Newport Harbor had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Torrey Pines faced Carlsbad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Falcons fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Torrey Pines saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Griffin Dieter had 21 digs and four assists. Dieter has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Lau, who had 24 assists and seven digs.

Torrey Pines' loss dropped their record down to 33-8. As for Newport Harbor, they pushed their record up to 26-11 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Newport Harbor was able to grind out a solid victory over Torrey Pines when the teams last played back in April, winning 2-0. Do the Sailors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
