Woodlawn is a perfect 10-0 against Grayville since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cardinals will host the Bison at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Woodlawn turned things around against Odin/Patoka/Sandoval on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 13-7 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their one-run performance the match before.
Hannah McKinney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 14 hits.
At the plate, MaKayla Owens was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Rylee Pryor was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Woodlawn hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Grayville never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against North Clay/Clay City on Tuesday. They blew past North Clay/Clay City 14-4.
Emily Renshaw was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Renshaw was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Grayville got a massive performance out of Addi Tate, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ava Kleinschmidt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Grayville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Woodlawn, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Grayville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodlawn has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Grayville, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Woodlawn's sizable advantage in that area, the Bison will need to find a way to close that gap.
Woodlawn took their victory against Grayville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
