Basketball Game Preview: Union Tigers vs. Pocahontas County Warriors

The Union Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Pocahontas County Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Union will be strutting in after a victory while Pocahontas County will be coming in after a loss.

Last Wednesday, Union strolled past Paw Paw with points to spare, taking the game 65-47. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braylon Ward, who went 9-for-16 to rack up 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Ward has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Gaither, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pocahontas County had to suffer through a 92-39 loss at the hands of East Hardy. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost seven in a row.

Union now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Pocahontas County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Union couldn't quite finish off Pocahontas County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 54-51. Can Union avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
