Volleyball Recap: St. Edward's Pirates vs. Heritage Panthers
If St. Edward was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Sebastian River on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Heritage Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
St. Edward's wouldn't go down easily and took Heritage into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14.
Nevin Waddell paced St. Edward's offense, picking up 20 kills. Waddell got some help from Margaret Fykes and her 43 assists. CJ Fykes controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyra Davis, who had 28 kills, 13 digs, and four aces. That's the most digs Davis has posted over her last ten contests. Another player making a difference was Eva Vuichard, who had ten digs and five aces.
St. Edward's has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Heritage, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Coming up, St. Edward's will challenge Master's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Heritage, they will face off against West Shore at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
