Baseball Recap: Fenwick Wins Going Away Against Leyden

The Fenwick Friars made easy work of the Leyden Eagles on Monday and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Friars.

Bobby Milder looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Fenwick: the team is 4-0-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 14-15 otherwise.

At the plate, Aidan McConnell and Ben Jarnecke did most of the damage at the plate: McConnell went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Jarnecke went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave McConnell a new career-high. Dutch Navigato also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Fenwick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fenwick's record is now 18-15-1. As for Leyden, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-16.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Fenwick will face off against Kenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leyden, they will venture away from home to challenge Glenbrook South at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
