The Connellsville Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Connellsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
While Connellsville's win against Uniontown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Red Raiders 4-3.
Kendal King spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Connellsville saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cali Leichliter, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Addison Lloyd also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem was able to grind out a solid victory over Derry on Friday, taking the game 9-5.
Greensburg Salem also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Alle Scarpa gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Cate Waugaman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Katana Schade was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Greensburg Salem is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Connellsville, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Both Connellsville and Greensburg Salem just can't seem to miss. The Falcons have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Greensburg Salem struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Connellsville took their win against Greensburg Salem in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 13-2 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
