Preview: Freedom Eagles vs. Hylton Bulldogs
Freedom is 8-2 against Hylton since October of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Freedom Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hylton Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Freedom has 23 straight wins, Hylton has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Freedom stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Potomac Senior 65-0 at home. Given Freedom's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked second, while Potomac Senior is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Freedom relied on the efforts of Tristan Evans-Trujillo, who threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns while completing 89.5% of his passes, and Jeffrey Overton, who gained 236 total yards and five touchdowns. Evans-Trujillo hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Carleton juju Preston, who picked up 169 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hylton was the victim of a tough 27-7 loss at the hands of Gar-Field on Friday. Hylton was down 21-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Freedom's win was their 23rd straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 53.52 points. As for Hylton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Freedom against Hylton in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 65-0 win. Will Freedom repeat their success, or does Hylton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
