Baseball Recap: Taft Comes Up Short

Taft extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-16. They lost 10-0 to the Shafter Generals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Generals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 on Tuesday.

As for Shafter, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games.

For Shafter's part, Andy Gomez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Gomez a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shafter got a massive performance out of Joaquin Garza, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Jesiah Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Taft will challenge McFarland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shafter, they will take on Golden Valley in a tournament on Saturday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
