Baseball Game Preview: Middletown Mustangs vs. Kelseyville Knights

The Middletown Mustangs will face off against the Kelseyville Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Middletown managed to slip by Piner the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Middletown came up short against Piner on Saturday, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Kelseyville got themselves on the board against Lower Lake on Friday, but Lower Lake never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Knights have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brock Barrick made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Watkins, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Casey Huston was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Kelseyville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lower Lake only posted an OBP of .062.

The win made it two in a row for Kelseyville and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Middletown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4-1 record this season.
