Baseball Recap: Lapwai Takes a Loss

Lapwai was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Genesee Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-2 on Thursday.

Da Ron Wheeler was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Wheeler was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Wheeler is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Chase Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Brown is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Joseph Holt was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Lapwai's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Genesee, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Lapwai will face off against rival Clearwater Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Genesee is set to take on their familiar foe Potlatch at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
