Basketball Recap: Perkins County Takes a Loss

Perkins County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 69-40 defeat at the hands of the Southwest Roughriders. While losing is never fun, the Plainsmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Roughriders are ranked 36th).

Perkins County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Libby Cole, who posted five points and five rebounds. Addison York was another key player, putting up five points and five boards.

Southwest was led to victory by Kyra Nelms and Aspen Billeter. Nelms dropped a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Billeter almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. Nelms' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Vanpelt, who had nine points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Perkins County's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Southwest, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-1.

Perkins County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-33 victory against Sandhills Valley on the 14th. As for Southwest, they have also already played their next contest, a 71-22 win against Axtell on the 14th.
